9 Important Facts Every Woman Should Know About Her Urogenital System

3) Most of the women suffering from incontinence never consult a doctor.
Many women feel that frequent urination is just a part of aging and doesn’t pay much heed to it. According to the American College of Physicians, nearly 57% of women between 40-60 years suffer from urinary incontinence due to menopause, hysterectomy, obesity, UTIs, cognitive impairment, chronic cough and constipation. Rosenblum said, “I am seeing more patients with incontinence as women choose to have kids later, because there’s a greater risk of damage to the pelvic floor—that group of muscles that supports the uterus, bladder, small intestine, and rectum. Incontinence is very common, but it’s not something you have to live with. A lot of women have the false belief that it’s only treatable through surgery, but there are many non-invasive or less-invasive treatment options.” These treatments include pelvic floor physical therapy, medications (anticholinergics or Botox) and specific types of nerve stimulation.
